3 to 4 years of age

“The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six. For that is the time when man’s intelligence itself, his greatest implement, is being formed. But not only his intelligence; the full totality of his psychic powers.”

Why Papillon Montessori for Preschool?

At Papillon Montessori, our programs are designed to fulfill the developmental needs of each child. We equip our preschool classrooms with physical tools that engage their manual, visual, and auditory senses. Children typically spend two years in our preschool program to learn how to maximize their processing capacity with these tools. Preschool teaches our students the most efficient method of learning for them, by offering resources proven to cater to a variety of learning styles. A preschool education at Papillon Montessori ensures students are well prepared for any elementary program.

Our Preschool Students:

  • Grow to be confident, self-respecting individuals who love to learn.

  • Learn to initiate and complete work autonomously with the encouragement of the teacher.

  • Take responsibility for themselves and others.

  • Develop advanced intellectual and emotional awareness at a young age.

  • Are fully prepared for work at the elementary level, sometimes taking on first grade-level work when demonstrating mastery.

“When a child is given a little leeway, he will at once shout, ’I want to do it!’ But in our schools, which have an environment adapted to children’s needs, they say, ‘Help me to do it alone” ~  Dr. Maria Montessori

Young children take in a tremendous amount of information from their environment, with what Dr. Maria Montessori called "the absorbent mind." Our preschool program provides an enriching, hands-on learning experience, with materials specially planned for math, language, sensorial exploration, practical life activities, art, science, geography, and cultural studies. Children consciously make coordinated movements to accomplish tasks that lead the child on the path of self-regulation and self-control. Children develop observation and problem-solving skills; by manipulating, experimenting, and discovering. Our preschool program ensures students are well prepared for the more complex studies of an Elementary program.

All preschool classrooms include a dedicated outdoor environment where students learn life science and practical skills. We stress the importance of conservationism, so our students learn to respect and care for the environment at a young age.

“There must be provision for the child to have contact with nature, to understand and appreciate the order, the harmony and the beauty in nature… so that the child may better understand and participate in the marvelous things which civilization creates.” ~ Dr. Maria Montessori
